South African youngster Mika Abrahams has signed with Fortec Motorsports to race in British Formula 4 this season, after a successful rookie year in single-seater racing in Danish F4 in 2022.

The 14-year-old missed the first round of Danish F4 last year due to being too young, but after joining the grid with Team FSP he picked up two wins and came fourth in the standings.

Fortec is making a full-time return to British F4 in 2023, having only contested the final two rounds of last season with the new Tatuus T-421 car. Abrahams will be team-mate to James Higgins.

“I am grateful for this opportunity. F1 and the world championship title are definitely the main goals – and always will be. Entering the British F4 championship is the next step on the ladder. Although I miss the first three rounds [due to not yet being the mimum age of 15], it is my goal to get great results for myself and the team,” Abrahams said of joining British F4.

Fortec’s team principal Oliver Dutton added: “We are extremely excited to have Mika join the Fortec family.

“After an impressive debut last season in the Danish championship winning on his first race weekend, it’s apparent Mika is a quick learner. It’s going to be a steep learning curve but I’m confident we can work together to get Mika on the pace and showcase his natural talent. Missing the first three rounds due to age will take the pressure off Mika’s shoulders and allow him to concentrate on his development throughout the year.”
