Dale Coyne Racing has announced that Toby Sowery will continue to drive its #51 car in the next two IndyCar races on the streets of Toronto and at Portland.

Asian Le Mans Series and Indy Nxt race-winner Sowery made his IndyCar debut with the team earlier this month at Mid-Ohio, qualifying 24th and finishing 13th.

He is one of six different drivers to have raced the #51 car this season, with previous occupants including Indy Nxt graduate Nolan Siegel (who is now racing for McLaren) and former Formula 2 driver Luca Ghiotto.

Incredible job from DCR to give me such a great debut,” Sowery said of his Mid-Ohio weekend the day after the race. “The car was alive in the race and I loved every lap! P25 to P13 is something to be proud of in my eyes. Deffo on the achey side today! What a great crowd Mid-Ohio has as well.”

On his return to the cockpit in Toronto this weekend, having missed the oval races at Iowa Speedway last weekend, the 28-year-old Briton added: “Cat’s out the bag! Excited to get some momentum going with DCR.”

His third outing at Portland is on August 24/25, then he will return to his primary racin programme which is with Algarve Pro Racing in IMSA’s LMP2 class. DCR is yet to announce who will be driving the car in the oval race at Gateway on August 17, nor for the double-header at Milwaukee Mile and the race at Nashville Superspeedway that conclude the season.
