Elite Motorsport’s McKenzy Cresswell prevailed in a lap one battle with Louis Sharp and John Bennett to take his first GB3 victory of 2024 in race two at Silverstone.

The start was almost a repeat of race one, with Rodin Motorsport’s Sharp beating poleman Cresswell into Copse before the pair went side-by-side through Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel, and Bennett then capitalising to make it three-wide on the Hangar Straight.

This time Bennett was on the outside approaching Stowe and could not find a way by, while Sharp dived to the inside of Cresswell who swept around the outside of the New Zealander to maintain the lead.

Bennett challenged Sharp into Club but backed out and then faced pressure from Cresswell’s team-mate Jarrod Waberski.

The battle at the front settled down after that, with Cresswell pulling out a two-second advantage over the first six laps and then maintaining the gap until the finish to win by 2.234s. It’s Cresswell’s first triumph since winning race two at Silverstone 12 months ago.

Sharp finished 3.5s ahead of closest title rival Bennett to extend his lead to nine points. Waberski came home 0.6s further behind in fourth, with Hitech GP’s Tymek Kucharzcyk close behind in fifth to keep himself in the title hunt.

Rodin’s Ugo Ugochukwu was sixth ahead of Velocity Racing Development by Arden’s Shawn Rashid who made up two places from ninth on the grid.

Noah Ping climbed from 14th to finish behind his VRD team-mate, while Hitech’s Gerrard Xie was shuffled back three places to 11th early on before passing Rodin’s Arthur Rogeon and Elite’s Hugo Schwarze to finish ninth.

Hitech’s Will Macintye lost further ground in the title race after recovering from the back of the grid to 16th, and Fortec Motorsports’ Colin Queen was spun out at Stowe in a late collison with Chris Dittmann Racing’s Flynn Jackes.
