Rodin Motorsport has signed Formula 2 veteran Amaury Cordeel to replace Christian Mansell on the eve of the 2025 season.

Mansell had been due to embark on his first full season in F2 after graduating from Formula 3 last last year, but announced on Tuesday morning his decision to “step away from racing for a little while” for personal reasons.

With Rodin required to fill the seat at short notice ahead of next week’s season-opening round in Melbourne, Cordeel has an unexpected chance to extend his F2 career into a fourth season with a fourth different team, after campaigns with Van Amersfoort Racing, Virtuosi Racing and Hitech. The Belgian’s best championship finish has been 17th, which he managed in both 2022 and 2024.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Amaury into the team for the 2025 season,” said Rodin’s sporting director and F2 team manager Benn Huntingford.

“We have a lot to learn about each other quickly, having missed pre-season testing, but we’re looking forward to taking advantage of his experience and knowledge of the current F2 car and all that he has learned from his time in the series so far. He is a great addition to the team and we look forward to working with him this season.”

Cordeel, who will be team-mate to McLaren-backed rookie Alex Dunne, added: “I’m delighted to be back competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Rodin Motorsport. I’m very much looking forward to working with the team to maximise our potential and achieve some strong results together.”
