Collet fastest again in Indy Nxt FP2 at Mid-Ohio

HMD Motorsports’ Caio Collet was fastest in Indy Nxt’s second practice session at the repaved Mid-Ohio on Saturday.

Collet had topped the FP1 times the previous day with a 1m11.4390s lap, and in FP2 he improved to 1m10.7894s to lead the way by a tiny 0.0481 seconds over Andretti Global’s Louis Foster.

Abel Motorsports’ Jacob Abel was 0.2387s behind in third, the slowest of the title-contending trio and feeling he had a lot more pace to find, and HMD’s Christian Brooks was fourth fastest on what is his second weekend in the championship.

His team-mate Jonathan Browne was 0.0344s behind him in fifth, and Callum Hedge (HMD) and James Roe Jr (Andretti) were closely matched in sixth and seventh.

The top 13 were covered by 0.9817s, with Andretti’s Jamie Chadwick at the bottom of that list and at had a spin across the grass at turn eight that led to a late red flag interruption. When practice resumed, there was less than two minutes left on the clock.

HMD’s Myles Rowe had a bad session, only completing eight laps after he went off at speed into the tyre barriers at turn 12 and caused a red flag period 12 minutes in. He had been eighth fastest at the time and was able to exit his car without assistance, but ended FP2 in 17th place and needing to have his car repaired before qualifying.

Reece Gold, who is currently seventh in the standings, was the slowest driver in the 19-car field, lapping 1.7s off Collet’s pace.
