Colin Kaminsky has signed with Abel Motorsports to move up to Indy Nxt for 2023.

The 23-year-old has been racing on the IndyCar support bill since 2017, with three seasons in USF2000 followed by three incomplete years in USF Pro 2000, and is still searching for his first single-seater win.

He raced for his family’s own Kaminsky Racing team during his rookie USF2000 campaign, as his father Bob is also a racer and spent many years in USFP2000, and switched to DEForce Racing for his second season which had a best result of fourth.

His third and final season in the series was his most successful, claiming three pole positions and six podiums but missing out on third on the standings on victory countback.

That year was spent with Pabst Racing, and Kaminsky remained with the team through his 34-race stint in USFP2000. During that time he made the podium six times and earned a pole, and was eighth in the standings in his rookie season.

“I’m extremely excited to have joined Abel Motorsports for the 2023 Indy Nxt season,” said Kaminsky.

“Bill [Abel, team boss] has put together a sensational team, who all have years of experience in the series dating back over 20 years. This really reassures me that I’m with a team capable of winning and competing at a high level.

“On top of that, they all have big personalities and make the environment a blast to be around.

“This will be my first season in Indy Nxt so I’m trying to learn as much as I can and compete to the best of my ability.”

Kaminsky tested with his new team last summer, and also at Homestead-Miami Speedway last month in a group test that marked the first time this year’s Indy Nxt field got to try the series’ new Firestone tyres.

He will be team-mate to sophomore Jacob Abel, whose father owns the team.

“We are really excited to have Colin join Abel Motorsports for the 2023 Indy Nxt season,” Abel Sr said.

“Colin tested very well last summer in his first outing in our car, and he followed that up with a great test at Homestead in January. His talent, experience, and methodical approach will be a great addition to our driver roster.”
