Charlie Wurz will move to Trident next year for his second season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
The 18-year-old son of former Formula 1 driver and two-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Alex will be embarking on his fifth year in car racing, having started off in 2021 dovetailing sportscar appearances and single-seater outings.
“I am really happy to have signed with Trident and to be able to compete with the team that has won the last two titles in the FIA F3 Championship,” said Wurz.
“The team’s trophy case could not be more prestigious. There is already great chemistry with the team, as we share the same motivations and desire to win. I know that I can and must learn a lot from them. I am already training for next year and I can’t wait to get to work.”
Wurz won the supporting Formula 4 race at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and followed that up at the start of 2022 by claiming the F4 United Arab Emirates title with Prema. He stuck with the team for his return to Europe, coming fourth in Italian F4 and seventh in ADAC F4.
For 2023 he stepped up to Formula Regional, winning the New Zealand Grand Prix en route to becoming champion of Oceania but only scoring once in a half-season in the European championship.
He then decided to make another step up to F3-level competition, racing in Euroformula and coming sixth in the standings with a win and four other podiums from his half-season there and then joining Jenzer Motorsport at the FIA F3 World Cup-awarding Macau Grand Prix. After finishing 11th in the qualification race, he failed to finish in the main race.
Jenzer kept Wurz for a full FIA F3 campaign in 2024, and a single points finish put him 22nd in the standings. He is the first driver confirmed on the 2025 grid.
“We are very delighted to announce that Charlie Wurz will be joining the Trident Motorsport family,” Trident’s team manager Giacomo Ricci commented.
“Charlie is smart and fast and will be contesting his second year in the FIA F3 Championship. We are convinced that he can do very well representing our colors. We are looking forward to working with him during the post-season test session.”
