Jesse Carrasquedo Jr claimed pole for Eurocup-3 race three at Algarve by topping the second qualifying session.

Campos Racing’s Francisco Macedo was the first driver on track, but then returned to the pits before setting a laptime.

Cristian Cantu ended up being the early pacesetter, the Drivex School driver setting a 1m41.257s to lead Palou Motorsport’s Alceu Feldmann Neto by 0.83 seconds eight minutes in. At that point only eight drivers had set laps.

Two minutes later that number was at 27, with Sainteloc Racing’s Garrett Berry leading the way. He lowered the pace to 1m40.706s, and led Global Racing Service’s Yani Stevenheydens by 0.42s.

Next to the top was Campos’s Kacper Sztuka, who set a 1m39.872s. Berry improved but was demoted to third by Campos’s Enzo Tarnvanichkul, with team-mate Theodor Jensen in fourth ahead of Drivex’s Preston Lambert.

Soon Campos’s Jules Caranta and MP’s Mattia Colnaghi were between Sztuka and Tarnvanichkul, then Ernesto Rivera crossed the line and the Campos driver lowered the pace to 1m39.592s.

Sztuka got within 0.022s of him on his next lap and Carrasquedo improved to 1m40.111s in fourth. That became fifth as Colnaghi set a 1m39.846s on his next lap, while Maciej Gladysz (MP), Valerio Rinicella (MP) and James Egozi (Palou) beat Tarnvanichkul.

Rivera grew his advantage at the top to 0.033s with five-and-a-half minutes left of qualifying, and Caranta got within 0.225s of him in third as Macedo and Rinicella improved in fifth and sixth.

There were fewer improvements after that, with Carrasquedo and Macedo among the exceptions. Carrasquedo took fifth from him on his next lap as both set personal bests, then on the one after that Carrasquedo snatched pole by 0.066s by setting a 1m39.515s.

Macedo also found more pace, but remained in sixth, and Rivera did not respond to Carrasquedo since he was already in the pits.

A second covered the top 17, and Sainteloc’s Lorenzo Castillo propped up the timesheet after he had all of his laps deleted due to track limits abuse.
