GB3’s reigning champion team Hitech GP has signed Michael Shin as the third driver in its 2023 line-up.

Shin was 11th in British Formula 4 with Virtuosi Racing last year, winning race two on the Brands Hatch Indy layout early in the year before adding a further podium finish on the venue’s Grand Prix layout at the final round.

He was also 29th in F4 United Arab Emirates F4 in 2022, and represented South Korea in the FIA Motorsport Games F4 Cup at Paul Ricard, finishing 23rd in the Hitech-run field.

At the start of this year he moved up to Formula Regional Middle East with Prema, and came 14th with one podium.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Hitech GP for the 2023 GB3 championship,” said Shin.

“Last year, they were very strong, winning both the teams’ and the drivers’ titles. I believe that will be a great environment for me to learn and improve as the season progresses.

“GB3 provides an excellent path up the racing ladder, with additional seat time, fully reverse grid races, and races at three different grand prix venues. We’ve got an exciting new year ahead of us, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Shin is the 20th driver to be confirmed on the 2023 GB3 grid, and took part in testing at Silverstone this week alongside new team-mates Alex Dunne and Souta Arao.

“We’re really pleased for Michael to be joining our team,” added Hitech’s GB3 team manager Phil Blow.

“He drove exceptionally well in the FRME championship and made great progress in the car. His pace during the GB3 tests leaves us feeling confident that we will have a strong season together and can fight for some good results.”
