Reigning British Formula 4 champion Louis Sharp has chosen GB3 as his next career step, and will race for Rodin Motorsport in the series.

The 16-year-old New Zealander arrived in Great Britain in 2022 with the backing of Rodin Cars after starring in South Island Formula Ford in his home country. He raced in British F4 for the team then known as Carlin and despite missing the opening round still came fourth in the standings after taking two wins.

Sharp ended the year by winning both races in F4 United Arab Emirates Trophy, then remained with Carlin in British F4 for 2023 as Rodin added its name to the team. With six wins, eight other podiums and four poles, Sharp took the title by 13 points.

Following that he drove for the team (which has recently rebranded to Rodin Motorsport) in a post-season FIA Formula 3 test at Imola, but has instead decided to step up to the Formula Regional-level GB3 series.

“Once again I will be racing with Rodin Motorsport and I must thank [company boss] David Dicker and all those at Rodin Cars for making this possible,” said Sharp.

“Rodin took me to the F4 title and also has a great record in GB3, winning that driver title as well as mine in 2023. In terms of career progression and further success, I really could not hope to be with a better team.

“I wouldn’t be racing if I wasn’t aiming to win, so back-to-back titles is certainly the aim. However, it is a new category, so I’ve got to take that into account. Even so, I definitely want to be fighting at the front, and fighting for the championship.”

Rodin’s GB3 team manager Ricky Taylor added: “Louis has been one of those drivers in recent years who has been really exciting to watch develop. He has been working closely with the team for a couple of seasons now so he’s well placed to make this move to a new championship; his experience and skills as the reigning British F4 champion speaks for itself. I’m confident that he will take to the car well and be a front-runner from the very start – I look forward to him getting behind the wheel and for racing to begin.”
