Ary Bansal took a maiden single-seater victory in GB4’s second race at Donington Park, as Elite Motorsport scored a podium lockout.
Race one winner Isaac Phelps lined up from pole for the second time of the weekend ahead of Fortec Motorsports’ Jack Taylor, but it was Phelps’s team-mates Bansal and Alex Kattoulas who made the best starts from row two.
Bansal climbed from third to snatch the lead from Phelps on the outside at Redgate, with Kattoulas taking third away from Taylor. Phelps was forced to defend from Kattoulas into Fogarty on lap one, allowing Bansal to pull out a 2.2-second lead.
Bansal extended his advantage to six seconds over the next few laps, and eventually cruised home with a four-second winning margin. Behind him, Phelps kept Kattoulas at bay to finish second.
Leandro Juncos passed his Hillspeed team-mate Daniel Guinchard for fifth into Redgate on lap three and then profited from a late error by Taylor into Melbourne to grab fourth. Taylor faded to six seconds behind Juncos by the chequered flag, but resisted pressure from Guinchard to take fifth.
Arden’s Leon Wilson bounced back from his race one non-finish to gain two places to seventh ahead of Graham Brunton Racing’s Alex Berg who climbed from 11th to eighth.
Douglas Motorsport’s Dayton Coulthard gained four spots to 10th on the opening lap and passed GBR’s Mayer Deonarine in the closing stages to finish ninth.
Having moved up seven places on lap one, Deonarine later suffered front wing damage in a clash at Goddards with Fortec’s Thomas Ingram-Hill, who was forced to retire. Arden’s Ava Dobson profited from the incident to come home 10th.
Douglas driver Luke Hilton tumbled down the order after colliding with Pace Performance’s Stefan Bostandjiev at Old Hairpin on lap one, and Bostandjiev eventually retired from the race.
