Rafael Camara claimed his fourth Formula 2 pole position of 2026 at Spa-Francorchamps ahead of Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak and Alex Dunne.
A damp start to the session with rain lingering resulted in an early spin for Campos’ Noel Leon at Raidillon. Despite the red flags being flown the Mexican was able to restart his car and return to the pits.
When racing resumed his teammate was setting the pace, as Nikola Tsolov went to the top of the timesheets. The Red Bull junior was quickly demoted though as Rodin’s Alex Dunne pipped the Bulgarian by 0.265s with a 1m57.124s.
The Irishman appeared untouchable as the session progressed, Camara the closest competitor to the Rodin driver albeit 0.223s adrift.
MP Motorsport’s Oliver Goethe continued his impressive form as the Dutchman moved ahead of ART’s Kush Maini to round out the top five with 10 minutes remaining.
As running resumed the red flags briefly flew after Trident’s Laurens Van Hoepen stopped down the main straight with a mechanical issue.
Three and a half minutes remained when the drivers took to the track for the final time with Camara the first of the front runners to improve, going top with a 1m56.306s.
Dunne couldn’t toppled the Brazilian, bettering his time before Inthraphuvasak shot up the order to split the two championship rivals with his best starting position of the season.
Championship leader Tsolov moved into fourth while his championship rival Gabriele Mini endured another torrid weekend, failing to break into the top ten in qualifying, claiming 14th on the grid as the Italian was outqualified by his teammate Goethe.
John Bennett continued his and Trident’s strong showing with fifth, making up for his teammate’s issues while Ferrari junior Dino Beganovic took sixth for DAMS. Camara’s teammate Joshua Duerksen was seventh ahead of Roman Bilinski in eighth.
Martinius Stenshorne was ninth with a better performance for the Norwegian after a dip in form. The Rodin driver’s position would swap to a front row start for Saturday’s sprint race with the 20 year-old behind Prema’s Sebastian Montoya, the Colombian claiming his second reverse grid pole of the season.
