Euroformula race-winner Sebastian Ogaard is MP Motorsport’s first signing for the new Eurocup-3 championship.
Eurocup-3 will use a car based on Tatuus’s Formula Regional chassis but with updated, lighter bodywork and with a tuned up engine, and the series has been created by the promoters of the Spanish Formula 4 championship.
Among the founding teams is Dutch squad MP, as is Global Racing Service which has recently publicly confirmed its entry into the series. The inaugural season will feature races in Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands.
“Signing up with MP Motorsport for the first season of Eurocup-3 is an important step in my single-seater career,” said Ogaard.
“They are one of the biggest teams around in the various feeder series to Formula 1, and I’m certain their experience will help me in my development as a driver. We already worked well together in Formula Regional Middle East, and that gives me the confidence to go for glory in Eurocup-3.”
The 19-year-old Dane made his car racing debut at the end of 2019, making two F4 appearances and one of those with MP in the Spanish championship, then was third in his native Formula 4 championship in 2020.
He went one better in Spanish F4 in 2021, and started last year by racing in Euroformula with Van Amersfoort Racing. Although Ogaard won on his third start, he and the team exited the series after four rounds and he later appeared in FRegional Europe with KIC Motorsport as a guest driver.
Last month he joined MP for FRegional Middle East, and scored twice in the six races he did in the series.
“We are happy to welcome Sebastian to our Eurocup-3 team”, said MP’s team principal Sander Dorsman.
“He briefly drove for us in 2019, and two years ago he was one of our strongest adversaries in the Spanish F4 championship. We’ve always kept an eye on him since. His speed has never been in doubt, so we look forward to teaming up with him for a strong challenge in our first season in Eurocup-3.”
